Articulation/Speech sound production

Problems in this area can cause unintelligible speech and inability to convey a message clearly.

Auditory Processing

The ability to understand and process sounds and speech where hearing and intelligence is normal.  Listening is not the same as hearing! Delays can have a serious impact on functioning in the classroom with regards to following of instructions, reading and spelling.

Early Communication Development

Treatment for children from 0-3 years with regards to their communication development. Research have shown that the earlier you start with therapy the higher the success rate. It focuses on parent training and involvement in the therapy process.

Stuttering

Refers to any disfluencies in speech affecting effective communication.

Pragmatics

This refers to the social aspect of communication and includes eye contact, turn-taking, topic maintenance and use of various communication functions such as requesting, denying, explaining and reasoning.

Voice problems

Refers to any problems of the vocal chords caused by voice misuse or pathology leading to hoarse voice quality, inappropriate volume and intonation.

Reading abilities

Speed of reading, comprehension and fluency.

Spelling abilities

Ability to write down words with an understanding of spelling rules, phonemic awareness and phonics.

Swallowing and feeding disorders

Refers to eating difficulties due to texture sensitivity, drooling, poor oral-motor muscles and incorrect tongue placement.

Language development:

Receptive Language

Ability to understand and comprehend spoken and written language.

Expressive Language

Ability to express oneself with words, gestures or devices to convey a message.

Academic language

Putting thoughts in written form with correct sentence construction and grammar. The foundation of scholastic ability and success.
